Gross bookings
$58.0BResearch note · Uber · 26 August 2026
The ecosystem is becoming
the moat.
Q2 2026 strengthened the operating thesis. The harder question is whether Uber can become the commercial layer for autonomous mobility without surrendering the asset-light economics that made the business attractive.
MITUXA VERDICT
QUALIFIED / HOLDBusiness view strengthened · Entry under reassessmentBEYOND THE OBVIOUS
Autonomy changes the fleet.
It may not replace the network.
Uber's advantage is becoming broader than ride-hailing. It combines demand, driver and courier supply, payments, subscriptions, merchants, advertising, logistics and increasingly autonomous partners in one distribution layer.
The likely autonomous future is hybrid rather than winner-take-all. Technology providers still need customer acquisition, fleet utilisation, charging, cleaning, maintenance, support, insurance and the ability to balance supply with demand. Uber can provide that commercial and operational layer.
That opportunity carries a new risk. Strategic investments, fleet commitments and acquisitions could make the business more capital-intensive. The thesis strengthens only if Uber captures AV economics without replacing a high-return platform with a lower-return owner of assets.

Right business.
Reassess the asymmetry.
At the $78.49 reference price, the operating engine remains attractive. We are not raising conviction mechanically because cash generation is now funding a wider set of commitments. Existing owners can hold; new capital should wait for a clearer map of autonomous investment, acquisition integration and per-share returns.
WHAT COULD BREAK THE THESIS
- Gross-bookings growth remains below 15% without a temporary explanation.
- Autonomous investment materially lowers returns on capital or requires sustained balance-sheet expansion.
- AV partners bypass Uber and build scaled consumer distribution independently.
- Regulation, insurance or take-rate pressure weakens Mobility economics.
EVIDENCE TO FOLLOW
A stronger thesis.
A higher capital-allocation bar.
