Investment snapshot

MITUXA rating: WATCH. monday.com offers a credible opportunity to turn enterprise adoption into higher economic profits. At the reference price, however, the investment still depends on a meaningful improvement in cash generation after the cost of equity compensation.

Principal questionCan AI monetisation offset pressure on seats while improving cash per share?

All valuation figures are MITUXA estimates, not company guidance or analyst consensus. They are present-value scenarios, not five-year price targets. Their wide dispersion is evidence of uncertainty.

The share price has become interesting enough to examine seriously. That does not settle the more difficult question: how much of the platform's value will ultimately belong to shareholders?

Why the business matters

monday's product family covers work management, CRM, development and service. Its positioning increasingly combines human collaboration, workflows and AI execution [2,3].

MITUXA View. The economic problem is coordination. Information must move between teams, approvals must be recorded, and work must remain visible when ownership changes. A simple task list has limited protection against competitors. An operational process connecting permissions, customer records, automations and reporting is more difficult to replace.

This distinction matters more than the number of features on a product page. An enterprise may find an alternative application cheaper but still decide that migration, retraining and operational disruption outweigh the savings. Conversely, a lightly used departmental tool can disappear during a budget review.

Our investment thesis therefore rests on deeper implementation, not simply a larger customer count.

What the evidence says

Reported data. Amounts in $ millions except percentages. [4,5]

Year-on-year growth27%22%
GAAP operating income / loss-1.748-1.544
Adjusted operating income175.26361.110
Net dollar retention110%109%

Q2 customers above $100,000 ARR increased 37%; current remaining performance obligations increased 27%. Management's 2026 revenue range is $1,466–1,474 million; Q3 growth guidance is 16–17%. AI products represented 17% of Q2 net new ARR, not 17% of total revenue. [5]

MITUXA View. Enterprise adoption supports the case for deeper customer relationships. Slower growth limits the premium we are willing to pay. Net retention above 100% indicates net spending expansion within an existing cohort; it does not mean every customer renews or that customer churn is negligible.

The two observations can coexist: the product can become more embedded in large organisations while the company's overall growth rate decelerates.

Consensus: no current consensus series is used in our valuation. Management guidance, reported accounts and MITUXA projections are kept separate throughout this report.

Beyond the Obvious: AI revenue needs a gross-profit test

For eligible new AI Work Platform customers joining from 6 May 2026, monday requires both seats and AI credits in the purchase. The support documentation explicitly limits that purchasing model to the AI Work Platform, rather than applying it indiscriminately to CRM, dev and service. [3]

MITUXA View. This offers a route to charging for machine activity even if the number of human users grows more slowly. But a mandatory starting package is not, by itself, proof of voluntary recurring demand.

We would distinguish three stages: initial credit purchase, repeated consumption, and renewal or expansion after customers have measured the benefit. Evidence becomes stronger as customers move through those stages.

Consider an illustrative customer, not a reported monday account. Automation reduces seat revenue by $20, while AI usage adds $30. Revenue rises $10. If the incremental AI service costs $15 and seat-related cost savings are negligible, contribution profit falls $5. Higher AI revenue has not produced better economics.

The reverse is also possible: useful agents increase activity without reducing seats, and efficient inference costs allow gross profit to grow faster. The data needed to choose between those outcomes are usage, renewal and contribution margins. AI-labelled ARR alone cannot resolve the question.

MITUXA takeaway: the investment depends on profitable execution revenue, not merely attaching AI to an existing subscription.

Competitive protection: strongest where migration is hardest

The annual filing identifies competitors including Asana, Smartsheet, Notion and ClickUp in work management; HubSpot and Zoho in CRM; and Atlassian in development and service. [2]

Potential advantage — MITUXA ViewWhat could weaken it?
Embedded workflows and permissionsCustomers standardising on a competing suite
Adoption across several departmentsIsolated departmental use with separate buying decisions
Accessible configurationAI making competing tools equally easy to build and use
Integrations and operational contextAgents treating monday as an interchangeable connector

We assess the moat as uneven: potentially meaningful in operationally important deployments, weaker in basic task coordination. We do not assume a universal network effect in which each new customer improves the product for every other customer.

The strategic opportunity is to become the trusted execution layer: the place that knows what an agent may do, which information it may access and who remains accountable. The strategic risk is that another platform owns that relationship and captures most of the economics.

We do not anchor valuation to a peer multiple. Different growth rates, product mixes and stock-compensation policies can make apparent comparability misleading. Our valuation instead asks what cash the business can generate after paying for the resources it needs.

A restructuring can improve margins and weaken the franchise

The July plan contemplated an approximately 20% workforce reduction, estimated net charges of $45–55 million and substantial completion during 2026. [6]

MITUXA View. This makes execution more consequential. monday is pursuing enterprise adoption and AI monetisation while changing its cost structure. Larger customers may require more support and more rigorous implementation, even as management seeks efficiency.

We would welcome lower costs accompanied by stable retention and better product delivery. We would not interpret a short-term margin increase as success if it precedes weaker renewal, slower implementation or reduced competitiveness.

The relevant test is sustained cash creation, not the first quarter in which adjusted earnings benefit from a smaller expense base.

Cash quality: what is left after paying employees economically?

H1 2026 reported inputs and MITUXA reconciliation, $ millions. [7]

BridgeAmount
Operating cash flow160.041
Property and equipment purchases-6.237
Capitalised software development-1.590
Unadjusted free cash flow — calculated152.214
Stock-based compensation expense-70.501
Simplified cash-after-SBC proxy — calculated81.713

The last line is an analytical proxy, not an IFRS or GAAP cash-flow measure. SBC is not a cash outflow of that amount; deducting it recognises that employee ownership has an economic cost. Grant-date accounting expense will not perfectly match eventual dilution or the cost of offsetting it through repurchases.

This bridge is also not yet our valuation cash flow. It still requires normalisation of working capital, cash taxes and financial income. We do not simply double the half-year figure. Advance customer payments and payment timing can affect the result materially.

Our forecast margins incorporate an economic charge for future equity remuneration. We consequently do not also impose a mechanical annual dilution rate for the same future expense. Outstanding awards remain a separate source of uncertainty; a higher share-count sensitivity is shown below.

ROIC: the label is less useful than the reconciliation

MITUXA calculation: trailing GAAP EBIT through June is $18.217 million: FY2025 EBIT of -$1.748 million, plus H1 2026 EBIT of $18.210 million, less H1 2025 EBIT of -$1.755 million. Adding back the $21.436 million facilities impairment gives $39.653 million before tax. Both calculations retain SBC. [4,8]

The impairment is distinct from future employee severance associated with the July plan. Treating every restructuring-related expense as an identical recurring or non-recurring item would obscure the economics. [8]

MITUXA View. monday has not yet demonstrated the sustained high economic return profile we require for an exceptional-quality classification. A cash-heavy balance sheet, buybacks and expensed development spending also make ROIC highly sensitive to definitions.

Deducting all cash from invested capital can produce an unhelpful denominator. Capitalising research spending would change both earnings and capital and require a defensible useful-life assumption. We will not use a favourable-looking ratio as a substitute for that work.

The more reliable near-term evidence is improving operating profitability after remuneration costs and a growing, normalised cash contribution per share.

Balance sheet and capital allocation

At June-end, cash and securities were $1,072.755 million; lease obligations were $237.488 million. H1 repurchases cost $734.971 million. June shares outstanding were 42.274119 million, and the subsequent-events note records an August donation of 0.196829 million shares. [8]

MITUXA View. Repurchases can improve per-share economics when made below intrinsic value. They also use resources that cannot then fund product investment or absorb mistakes. Shrinking the denominator is not a substitute for improving the business.

We retain a $300 million operating and contingency reserve and add only $772.755 million of surplus liquidity to enterprise value. The reserve is our assumption, not a statement that cash is legally restricted. It also provides prudence around transformation costs, but is not a precise forecast of those payments.

Lease payments remain an operating cost in our future cash margins. We therefore do not deduct the lease liability again. This is a consistent operating-lease convention, not a claim that lease obligations disappear.

Valuation: an improving business is already part of the base case

MITUXA assumptions. We use $1,470 million as the 2026 revenue starting point, matching the midpoint of management's range. [5] Forecast economic cash margins include taxes, maintenance and growth investment, normalised working capital, lease costs and an economic allowance for stock compensation. They exclude returns on surplus liquidity.

2031 revenue, $m1,8572,5873,358
2031 economic cash flow, $m130362672

These cases are not probabilities or confidence intervals. The base case requires successful margin improvement; the bull case requires sustained growth and substantial operating leverage at the same time.

The base-case cash path

YearRevenue, $mEconomic cash flow, $m
20271,705171
20281,944214
20292,177261
20302,395311
20312,587362

Forecasts are built from revenue multiplied by the stated cash margin. The terminal value is 2031 cash flow multiplied by (1 + terminal growth), divided by (discount rate − terminal growth). Year-end cash flows are discounted to 26 September 2026, with a 96/365-year stub before 2027. Surplus liquidity is added, then the result is divided by 42.470948 million shares: June shares plus the known donation. This is not a verified September fully diluted share count.

We omit residual 2026 free cash flow and do not invent a post-June cash balance. Omission of that cash flow is conservative in isolation, but does not make the entire model conservative. Using 45 million shares would lower all values by approximately 5.6% before any other change.

Sensitivity: base operating path, dollars per share

Discount rate / terminal growth2%3%4%
10%106116130
11%95103113
12%8793100

Approximately 75% of the base-case operating value comes from the terminal value. An additional $100 million liquidity reserve reduces value by about $2.35 per share. Every scenario should therefore be read as a conditional outcome, not a precise appraisal.

What does $83.66 require?

MITUXA reverse valuation. Holding the base revenue path, discount rate, terminal growth, share count and cash reserve constant, the market price is approximately consistent with 77% of our projected cash flows. That corresponds to an economic cash margin rising from roughly 7.7% in 2027 to 10.8% in 2031, instead of 10% to 14%.

This is one mathematical combination, not a claim about what investors collectively forecast. Lower growth, different discount rates or greater dilution could produce the same price.

At $83.66, the discount to the calculated base value is approximately 19%, while the upside to that value is approximately 23%. A 25% discount corresponds to approximately $77. The bear case implies roughly 49% downside from the reference price. A modest discount to the central estimate is therefore not sufficient protection against a broken thesis.

How we would try to break the thesis

The following are MITUXA monitoring rules, not company forecasts.

Failure mechanismEvidence to watchInvestment response
AI removes seats faster than it creates profitable usageRetention at or below 100% for two quartersRebuild the central growth case
Credit purchases fail to translate into durable demandWeak renewal or little evidence of repeat consumptionRemove any AI-specific valuation premium
Cost reductions damage deliveryEnterprise retention weakens alongside slower implementationReject margin gains as sufficient evidence of progress
Adjusted profits mask employee ownership costsCash after economic remuneration stagnates per shareLower the sustainable cash margin
Competitors compress pricingPersistent discounting without offsetting efficiencyReduce terminal profitability

All five mechanisms have potentially high valuation impact. Their precise probabilities cannot be established from public disclosures. We would also monitor security incidents, regional operating disruption and the ability to retain technical staff during restructuring.

MITUXA investment decision

WATCH — attractive research candidate, not yet a high-conviction purchase.

The constructive case is straightforward: enterprise adoption deepens, AI generates recurring profitable activity, and a leaner cost base converts revenue into cash. The hostile case is equally coherent: the product remains useful but competition, expensive AI usage and employee compensation leave shareholders with disappointing returns.

Our $75–80 review zone is conditional on the base assumptions remaining credible. A lower price caused by weaker economics would require a lower appraisal, not automatic buying. Conversely, stronger evidence on retention and economic margins could justify reassessment at a higher price.

The next results should be judged on four questions: are large customers still expanding; are AI credits being used and renewed; does profitability improve after remuneration costs; and does normalised cash per share follow?

monday does not need to dominate every category to create value. It needs to retain enough of the value it creates for customers. That is the investment test.
